Gavin Cowan

Having played for various clubs such as Exeter City, Canvey Island, Grays Athletic and earning two England C caps, Gavin moved from his native Essex when Shrewsbury Town decided to pay a fee to sign him on a two and a half year contract.

After returning to Essex briefly Gavin decided Shropshire was the place for him and so returned opting to come out of full-time football signing a two year deal at Nuneaton Borough while looking to pursue a career in sports development.

Having been at Nuneaton for a year he took the opportunity to play closer to home and signed for AFC Telford United where he enjoyed great success in all competitions and playing a seasons record for an outfield player of 65 competitive games in the clubs most successful season for the club to date.

Having completed a HND in Sport Studies Gavin now works part time at Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology as a sports co-ordinator combining his role with the day to day running of Crossbar Coaching. Whilst playing professionally Gavin had taken his coaching badges and been involved with the Football Association helping to coach children of all ages and abilities.

Gavin has now signed for Fleetwood Town, who are hot on the trail of promotion to the Conference Premier, This continues to enable him to combine football with coaching and his work within Sports Development which collectively he is hoping will benefit him in his desire to give something back into a game that has been so good to him.

‘I have been so lucky to achieve what every boy wants and that is to play football which I have been blessed to do since leaving school.

I now feel as though it is time to help give children the opportunities in which I was so lucky to receive and do my best to pass on what some great football men have passed on to myself.

Seeing the joy on children’s faces when playing football isn’t quite like living it yourself, but it’s the next best thing‘.
